University of Zimbabwe: study permit and student visa, checked 2026-11-07
Worth knowing: Get the study permit before you travel if you can, and renew it every year within 30 days of expiry.
The study permit
Apply before you travel, at the nearest Zimbabwean embassy or mission; the University of Zimbabwe strongly recommends it. The Department of Immigration may let you apply on arrival instead: you then get a temporary permit at the border and a set time to get the full permit. Without a valid permit you can be refused entry, and the university may not register you.
The University of Zimbabwe lists:
- the residence permit form (IF5), attested by a Commissioner of Oaths
- your letter of acceptance and proof of accommodation
- proof that you have paid your fees
- a copy of your passport's data page or birth certificate
- a chest X-ray report and two passport photos
- the USD 200 fee
Renewal. Renew every year, within 30 days before the permit expires, with a letter confirming you are continuing and your last results. Keep the immigration receipt safe.
Where to apply
At the embassy or consulate of Zimbabwe that covers your country, or through the visa application centre it names. Book early: in the busiest months appointments can be weeks away. Apply only through the official website; nobody can sell you a faster place in the queue.
Official pages: uz.ac.zw · msu.ac.zw. Rules change: confirm on the official page before you apply.
