Every cookie this site can set

Reading the site sets no cookie of ours. The ones below are set only when you sign in, or, for analytics, only if you agree.

1. Your sign-in

smv_session: set only when you sign in to manage a listing. It holds a random token and nothing else: no name, no email, nothing readable. It is how the site knows the next page you ask for is still you.

Strictly necessary. Thirty days. Signing out deletes it. Refusing it is possible and means you cannot sign in.

__Host-smv_admin: the same, for Studies Multiverse staff signed in to the administration area. Strictly necessary. Twelve hours.

Your shortlist

Schools you save are kept in your own browser’s storage (localStorage), not in a cookie, and are never sent to us. It exists only because you pressed save; clear your browser data and it is gone.

2. Counting readers

Cloudflare Web Analytics tells us which pages are read. It uses no cookie at all and no device fingerprint, and it cannot follow you to another site. It runs for everyone, because it needs nothing from you.

3. Google Analytics: only if you agree

_ga and _ga_<id> tell us how many people read which pages and how they found us. In the EU, the UK and Switzerland they are not set: we show no consent message at present, so nothing is stored. Up to two years. Google’s explanation: how Google uses data from sites that use its services.

What there is none of

• No advertising network (such as Google AdSense) and no ad tracking, on any page. Paid listings from service companies are labelled “Paid listing” and receive no data about you.
• No social media tracking pixels. No Facebook pixel, no LinkedIn tag, no TikTok pixel.
• No cross-site profile of you, built by us, at all.
