The A-1 student visa
1. Get admitted. Your university requests the visa for you and sends an invitation. 2. Apply at an Uzbek embassy or consulate. The A-1 visa is not issued through the e-visa portal. Bring your passport (valid at least three months beyond the visa), two application forms and two 35 x 45 mm photos. 3. Register your address within 3 days of arriving. New Uzbekistan University says every international student must do this; universities usually help during orientation.
The visa is issued for up to one year and renewed for the length of your studies.
Visa-free countries. Citizens of Kazakhstan, Russia, Azerbaijan, Armenia, Belarus, Georgia, Moldova and Ukraine can enter without a visa, and Kyrgyz and Tajik citizens for shorter stays. Those stays are short; ask your university whether you still need a student visa for a full degree.
