Student visa for Cyprus, for students from Armenia

A non-EU student needs an entry permit issued by the Civil Registry and Migration Department before travelling. Either apply through the Cyprus Embassy or High Commission in your country, or, far more commonly, have the university submit the application to the Migration Department on your behalf. Student visas are issued only to full-time students registered for at least 15 credits / 30 ECTS a semester.

The money: €7,000 available bank balance, evidenced by a bank statement, institutional letter or sponsor's letter. It drops to €5,000 with a scholarship of 50% or more, and is waived entirely with a full scholarship.

Separately, €2,000 in cash on arrival, presented at airport immigration. Treat this as a real border requirement, not a suggestion.

A bank guarantee for repatriation costs is required by law, but no fixed national sum is published. In practice the institution usually provides it: some issue a repatriation-coverage letter, others collect a refundable deposit (University of Nicosia takes €400). Ask before you pay anything.

Fees: around €140 total, Alien Certificate €70, Residence Permit €55, Entry Permit €15, with universities adding their own handling charges (Nicosia €150 non-refundable, Frederick €200).

Medical certificates are required and have short validity: blood tests for HIV, hepatitis B and C and syphilis plus a chest X-ray for tuberculosis, valid only four months, and some universities require them from public hospitals. Do not obtain them too early. A criminal record certificate with certified translation is also needed, valid six months.

Submit visa documents at least three months before the semester begins.

Registration on arrival is the step students most often get wrong. You must register with the Migration Department after entry: the University of Cyprus instructs students to submit documents to its international office within 7 to 10 days of arrival, which then arranges the biometrics appointment. The resulting permit is valid one year and must be renewed annually, with the guarantee and fee each time. The permit card itself takes three to four months to issue, that is normal and does not prevent study, but it does constrain travel.

One thing to check before transferring money: some universities require a substantial advance payment before the visa file is even submitted: European University Cyprus requires a €3,000 deposit. That money is at risk if the visa is refused. Get the refund policy in writing first.
