Studying in South Korea

The rules and the money, before you apply

These apply to every international student in South Korea, including at Korean Society of Medical Ultrasound. Each figure shows where it came from and when we last checked it.

Money you must show

KRW 20 million in the Seoul metropolitan area, KRW 16 million elsewhere

For D-2 degree students, in force since 3 July 2023. Language students (D-4): KRW 10 million in Seoul, KRW 8 million elsewhere. Some embassies also require the balance to be held for months.

Visa fee

Set by each embassy: USD 60-80 for a single-entry long-stay visa at the missions we checked

USD 60 at the Embassy in Bangladesh, USD 80 at the Embassy in Iran. Check your own embassy's notice.

Work while you study

10-35 hours a week in term, depending on your level, Korean ability and university

You need a part-time work permit from immigration before you start. Without a TOPIK score, undergraduates are limited to 10 hours and graduate students to 15.

Graduates switching straight from D-2 are exempt from the D-10 proof of funds.

How to apply in South Korea

The same rules for every institution in South Korea; Korean Society of Medical Ultrasound's own programme pages govern the exact dates and scores. Guide checked 24 Sep 2026.

Deadlines and intakes

The Korean academic year has two semesters: spring (March), the main intake, and fall (September). Each university sets its own international admissions window, and many close several months before the semester starts to leave time for the visa. Check the international admissions page of each university you are applying to.

Work backwards from the funds rule. If your embassy requires the balance to be held for three or six months, the money has to be in the account before you even apply to the university. Add the embassy's processing time and time to find housing, and allow at least six months from application to arrival.

Language you need

Korean-taught programmes set a minimum TOPIK level, and each university chooses its own. English-taught programmes set their own IELTS or TOEFL minimums: check the programme page.

You do not need Korean for the D-2 visa if your programme is in English. You do need it for more work hours, as shown above, and in practice for most jobs off campus and most graduate roles. TOPIK is held several times a year in Korea and abroad. Plan to reach TOPIK 3 in your first year and TOPIK 4 before your third.

Which ones can I apply for?

Student reviews: none yet for Korean Society of Medical Ultrasound. If you study or studied here, yours would be the first.

How we check reviews

Every reviewer confirms their email address with a one-time link, and a person at Studies Multiverse reads each review before it appears. We publish good and bad reviews on the same terms, never edit them, never pay for them, and an institution cannot remove a review by paying us. Reviews sent from the institution’s own email domain are not accepted. Institutions can reply below a review. See our terms.
