Studying in North Macedonia
These apply to every international student in North Macedonia, including at Ss. Cyril and Methodius University in Skopje. Each figure shows where it came from and when we last checked it.
Money you must show
The Law on Foreigners requires means of subsistence and says the Government decides the amount. We could not find the current Government decision, so we do not quote a figure.

Visa fee
Long-stay (D) visa, €35 for children aged 6 to 12. You apply only after the Ministry of Interior has approved your temporary residence.

Work while you study
Short-term or auxiliary work without a work permit, Law on Employment and Work of Foreigners, Article 14, as published in English in 2023. Amendments reportedly took effect in September 2025 and we could not confirm the current text.

Stay after you graduate
We found no route in official sources that lets graduates stay to look for work. You would need a work-based permit.

Deadlines and intakes
For 2025/26, UKIM took applications from foreign students from 19 August to 29 September 2025, by email to its foreign students office, with original documents delivered to the Rectorate in Skopje. Its general enrolment ran from 29 August to 30 September. Expect similar late-summer dates, and check the page for your year.
Then allow time for the Ministry of Interior's decision on temporary residence, followed by the D visa, which you must apply for at least 15 days before travelling.
Language you need
Macedonian is the official language, and programmes not listed as English-taught should be assumed to need it until the university tells you otherwise. UKIM offers the English-taught programmes listed above. Your documents for the residence application must be translated into Macedonian.
