Studying in Luxembourg

The rules and the money, before you apply

These apply to every international student in Luxembourg, including at Luxembourg Centre for European Law. Each figure shows where it came from and when we last checked it.

Money you must show

At least 80% of the social inclusion income (REVIS) a month

About €1,556 a month, or €18,666 for twelve months, at the REVIS rate for one adult of €1,944.40 valid from 1 June 2026 (our calculation). The University of Luxembourg gave €1,517 a month, €18,211 a year, for 2025.

The €80 residence permit fee is paid by every non-EU student, on the first application and on each renewal. The €50 visa fee is from Luxembourg embassy pages.

How to apply in Luxembourg

The same rules for every institution in Luxembourg; Luxembourg Centre for European Law's own programme pages govern the exact dates and scores. Guide checked 25 Sep 2026.

Deadlines and intakes

Leave plenty of time: the temporary authorisation alone can take 60 days, then the visa, then travel. Apply to the university early in the year for a September start, and lodge the authorisation as soon as you have your admission letter.

Language you need

Luxembourg has three administrative languages: Luxembourgish, French and German. The University of Luxembourg teaches in English, French and German, and many master's programmes are fully in English. Check each programme's language and level requirement. French is the most useful language for everyday life and many jobs.

How we check reviews

Every reviewer confirms their email address with a one-time link, and a person at Studies Multiverse reads each review before it appears. We publish good and bad reviews on the same terms, never edit them, never pay for them, and an institution cannot remove a review by paying us. Reviews sent from the institution’s own email domain are not accepted. Institutions can reply below a review. See our terms.
