Studying in Bulgaria, from the official sources in our guide
Studying in Bulgaria
These apply to every international student in Bulgaria, including at International University College. Each figure shows where it came from and when we last checked it.
Money you must show
The Ministry of Foreign Affairs' type D visa checklist asks for evidence of 'the amount of minimum 6 monthly wages' for Bulgaria. At the 2026 minimum wage of €620.20 a month that is about €3,721 (our calculation). The checklist is general, not study-specific: confirm the amount with the embassy that will take your application.

Visa fee
€200 for the one-year type D visa under Article 15(2) of the Foreigners Act, which covers students on programmes of up to one year. Fees are not refunded if the visa is refused.

The same rules for every institution in Bulgaria; International University College's own programme pages govern the exact dates and scores. Guide checked 25 Sep 2026.
Deadlines and intakes
Deadlines are set by each university and are often early for medicine. Work backwards: the Ministry of Education certificate and document recognition come before the visa, and the embassy needs its own time. Start at least four to six months before term.
Language you need
Bulgarian universities offer English-taught programmes, especially in medicine, business and engineering, but many degrees are taught only in Bulgarian. Universities that teach in Bulgarian run a preparatory language year for international students. Your university sets the English or Bulgarian requirement: check the programme page.
Free for students
Tell us what you want to study. Your request goes to the admissions team or to an adviser who works with them will contact you by email to help with your application. It costs you nothing.
Student reviews: none yet for International University College. If you study or studied here, yours would be the first.
Every reviewer confirms their email address with a one-time link, and a person at Studies Multiverse reads each review before it appears. We publish good and bad reviews on the same terms, never edit them, never pay for them, and an institution cannot remove a review by paying us. Reviews sent from the institution’s own email domain are not accepted. Institutions can reply below a review. See our terms.
Get in touch
Studies Multiverse passes your question to the admissions office by email, and they reply to you directly. We do not sell your details to anyone.
