Studying in Albania
These apply to every international student in Albania, including at University of Vlora "Ismail Qemali". Each figure shows where it came from and when we last checked it.
Money you must show
A deposit certificate from a second-tier bank in Albania, personal or family. Alternatively, proof of monthly income of at least 32,000 lekë per person.

Visa fee
The Ministry for Europe and Foreign Affairs says fees follow Council of Ministers Decision no. 569 of 3 October 2018 on the basis of reciprocity. The student residence permit costs 4,500 lekë the first time and 2,250 lekë on renewal, plus the biometric card.

Work while you study
After the first year, outside school hours, without authorisation from the National Agency for Employment and Skills. Self-employment is also allowed.

Deadlines and intakes
Universities set their own admission dates and we could not find a single national deadline for international applicants. Work backwards from your start date: allow time to open an Albanian bank deposit, get the visa (up to 15 days, sometimes 30) and then apply for the residence permit after arrival.
Language you need
The official language is Albanian and most public university teaching is in Albanian. The visa checklist asks for proof that you know the language of your studies. Private universities offer programmes in English: check the language of instruction on the programme page before applying.
