Formula: needed = (target - current × (1 - weight)) ÷ weight. If the result is above 100%, the target is mathematically out of reach - aim for the best achievable grade shown.
Strategy: Where to Spend Your Study Hours
- If you need under 60%: you are safe – review past papers once and protect your sleep.
- If you need 60-85%: normal final-exam preparation: 1-2 weeks of spaced review, focused on the topics with the most marks.
- If you need 85-100%: be realistic about the risk; ask the professor what topics carry the most weight and whether any extra credit exists.
- If you need over 100%: the target is gone – switch goals. Calculate the best grade you can still get and protect your GPA in your other courses. A planned B beats a failed A.
