Student loan calculator for studying abroad

In short: a loan’s monthly repayment depends on three numbers: how much you borrow, the yearly interest rate and how many years you repay. This calculator works it out with the standard repayment formula, adds interest that builds up while you study, and shows the total you pay back. It runs in your browser; nothing you type is sent anywhere.

Enter the amount, the rate your lender quotes and the years.

Not sure how much? Work out a first year in any country, then come back with the figure.

This is arithmetic, not an offer or advice: lenders add fees, change rates and set their own rules. Read the lender's official terms, and compare the total you repay, not only the monthly figure.

Qué hacer a continuación

  1. Look for money you do not repay first: government scholarships for your nationality y those closing soon.
  2. Borrow less by choosing a lower-cost country: free and low-tuition countries, which countries fit your budget.
  3. Check the visa money: some visas ask to see the living money in your own account before you travel (visa comparison).

Preguntas

How is a student loan repayment worked out?

With the standard annuity formula: monthly payment = amount x r / (1 - (1 + r)^-n), where r is the yearly rate divided by 12 and n the number of monthly payments. If interest builds up during your studies, it is added to the amount first.

How much should I borrow to study abroad?

Start from the whole first year, not tuition alone: tuition, twelve months of living costs and the visa fee. The cost calculator works that out for each country from official figures, and the visa may ask you to show the living money before you travel.

Is a scholarship better than a loan?

A scholarship does not have to be repaid, so check the government schemes open to your nationality before borrowing; many close between November and February.
