Bologna Process — Three-Cycle Degree Framework Explained

Direct citation of published official data. No estimates, no extrapolations.

The Bologna Process (1999) standardised European higher education into three cycles: Bachelor (180-240 ECTS), Master (60-120 ECTS), and Doctorate. Forty-nine countries participate. This is why a Master degree from any EHEA country is recognised across all member states — and explains the standard “3+2” undergraduate-then-Master structure.
